As South Korea and the Philippines celebrate its 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties, The South Korean ambassador Han Dongman said that South Korea is relaxing and simplifying the visa requirements and application process to encourage more Filipinos to visit its country.
To make visa applications easier, Filipinos have the option to apply through travel agencies to reduce the lines at the South Korean Embassy. The number of documents will also be reduced to allow an easier application process.
Han said that qualified people such as business people, government officers, and media people are eligible for multiple-entry visas valid from five to ten years. Qualified people just need to submit one single document saying that they’re working in that company to be eligible.
More opportunities for people-to-people exchange
Han also said that South Korea is increasing the number of scholarships offered to Filipinos.
“We are encouraging people-to-people exchange, not only tourists but also students. So we are inviting many Korean students to study in the Philippines, and also we are inviting many qualified, talented Filipinos, in particular, university students to get scholarship,” he said.
South Korea is also eyeing an increase of trade and visitors to the Philippines. According to the Department of Tourism, South Korea is one of the country’s top source market, with half a million tourists arriving to the country in 2018.
