Film distributor Pioneer Films announced that it will screen Mari Okada’s Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms anime film in the Philippines. The release date has yet to be confirmed.
The story follows Maquia, an orphaned Iorph girl who lives her life peacefully surrounded by friends, but somehow feels “alone”. Their peaceful lives are shattered when the Mezarte army invades on beasts called Renato. Maquia manages to escape, but loses her friends and her home. As she wanders through a dark forest, she finds Ariel, a baby boy who has lost his parents.
Maquia is the directorial debut of anime screenwriter Mari Okada (Anohana, The Anthem of the Heart), serving as the screenwriter and director of the film. The film featured character designs by Yuriko Ishii, while the original character designs came from Akihiko Yoshida. Kenji Kawai composed the music for the film. P.A. Works handled the animation production.
The film was recently received an award for Best Animation at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
